Home - Tips - Why Isn’t My Phone Ringing for Incoming Calls?
Reviewed by : Prasanta Raut
Missed calls. Silent notifications. No ring. If your phone isn’t alerting you to incoming calls, you’re not just facing a minor inconvenience—you might be missing moments, whether personal or professional.
Whether you’re using an Android, iPhone, or Cloud-Based system, the reasons behind a silent phone can be surprisingly simple or sneakily complex. From accidental settings to network issues and software bugs, a lot could be happening behind the scenes.
In this blog, we’re cutting through the noise. No fluff, no guessing, just a clear, expert-backed breakdown of your question, “Why isn’t my phone ringing for incoming calls,” and how to fix it fast.
Let’s get your phone working exactly as it should, starting now.
Table of Content
Let’s get one thing straight: No call ringing through your phone does not mean that your phone is broken.
In most cases, the issue is typically resolved by adjusting a setting, addressing a minor software issue, or identifying and disabling a connected device that is overriding the ringtone. And believe me, the best of them get tied up in these errors, too.
So, whether you have an iPhone, an Android, or any modern smartphone, there are several reasons why your phone may not ring, even if calls are coming in.
A muted ringer, an active “Do Not Disturb” mode, a Bluetooth connection changing where the sound is going, or just a problem with the network. The sooner you identify the root cause, the faster you’ll have your ringtone back—no technician required.
In the sections below, we’ll walk you through every possible reason—and exactly how to fix it.
Let’s get your phone ringing again.
Today, you’re going to learn exactly why your phone isn’t ringing—and how to fix it fast.
In fact, the 7 fixes I’m going to share with you have helped thousands of users solve this annoying issue in less than 5 minutes.
If your phone isn’t ringing, it doesn’t always mean it’s broken. Most of the time, it’s something simple, like a sneaky setting, a Bluetooth device you forgot about, or even an outdated software bug.
Fortunately, fixing it is WAY easier than you think.
Let’s do it!
Let’s start with the easiest fix of all.
You might’ve accidentally put your phone on silent or turned the ringer volume all the way down.
👉 Pro tip: Set your Ringer Volume to maximum in Settings > Sound for optimal safety.
Ever connected your phone to Bluetooth earbuds, your car, or a speaker?
Yeah… sometimes your ringtone goes there—and not through your phone speaker.
Here’s what to do:
Once you do this, try calling yourself. You’ll probably hear your ringtone again.
DND mode is super helpful—but it can also be sneaky.
It blocks all calls unless you’ve made exceptions. And if it’s scheduled, it might continue running without you realizing it.
Also, check if Call Forwarding is enabled. It could be sending your calls elsewhere without a sound.
If your phone can’t connect to the network, it won’t ring. Period.
Quick test: Try calling someone. If the call fails, it’s likely a network issue.
Software bugs can mess with everything, including your ringer.
If you haven’t updated your phone in a while, it’s time.
Oh—and restart your phone. It sounds basic, but it fixes a lot more than you’d think.
If none of the above works, your speaker might be toast.
Test it like this:
If you only hear sound through headphones, your speaker’s likely damaged. Time to get it checked by a pro.
Last but not least—this one’s tricky.
Some people think their phone isn’t ringing when it’s actually app notifications that are silent.
Go to Settings > Notifications, choose an app, and make sure sound is turned ON.
Note: If the issue still persists, you can find out why your iphone text sounds are not working here.
If you’re still not hearing anything, don’t panic—you’re not out of options yet.
You’ve ruled out the usual suspects—volume settings, Do Not Disturb, Bluetooth—and yet your phone stays silent?
Let’s go more serious:
First, let’s ensure your audio output is functioning properly. Your device may still be routing sound through Bluetooth or headphones, even when they are not connected. Plug them in, then unplug. This simple step often snaps your phone back to normal.
Note: Sometimes your phone thinks headphones are still plugged in—this quick trick can reset that confusion instantly.
Most smartphones come with a built-in support app that can test your hardware. You can also use trusted or decent third-party tools to uncover glitches in your software that you’d never find on your own.
Note: Diagnostics may sound techy, but most tools are super user-friendly, and they’ll save you hours of frustration.
Reset your network and sound settings. This doesn’t delete your personal data, but it clears away hidden conflicts that mess with audio.
Go to Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset All Settings. Easy. Effective.
Note: This is like giving your phone a fresh start—without losing your files, photos, or contacts.
Let the pros handle it. Set an appointment with a certified repair centre. The benefit of a repair pro is that they can test the internal components of your device, e.g., your speaker or logic board, which are not testable at home.
Silence doesn’t mean it’s over. It just means you’re one step closer to the real fix.
Let’s make sure this doesn’t happen again.
Start by setting volume alerts. Many phones let you enable warnings when your ringer is too low or muted. It’s a simple layer of protection that keeps you from missing important calls.
Next, turn off the automatic Do Not Disturb scheduled times, if you have that feature. The accidental activation of Do Not Disturb is one of the most common reasons that a phone will not ring. Check your settings and make sure it is only on when you actually need it.
Also, keep your software up to date. Updates don’t just bring new features—they patch bugs that can interfere with sound, notifications, and connectivity.
Lastly, check your Bluetooth. This is one where you have to remember to look for old Bluetooth pairs on your phone and remove them. You do not want your phone to default to a Bluetooth headset when it rings.
A few smart tweaks now can save you from missed calls and silent stress later. Be proactive. Stay connected.
Missing calls don’t always mean something is seriously wrong with your phone, but it does mean it’s time for a closer look. Whether it’s a simple setting, a software glitch, or a hardware issue, the solutions we’ve covered today are designed to help you troubleshoot with clarity and confidence.
By walking through each step, you’ve already done the hard part—now your phone should be ringing exactly when it should. And even if the issue runs deeper, you know how to spot the signs and take the proper next steps.
If your phone only rings for favorites, features like “Do Not Disturb” or “Silence Unknown Callers” may be enabled, which silences calls from anyone not on your favorites list.
Yes, if your phone is connected to a Bluetooth device or headphones, the ringtone may play through that device instead of your phone’s speaker, making it seem like your phone isn’t ringing.
If your phone only vibrates, the ringer volume may be set to zero, or your device may be set to vibrate-only mode. Check your sound settings and ensure the ringer is enabled.
Yes, poor network connectivity, a damaged SIM card, or carrier issues can prevent incoming calls from reaching your device, causing it not to ring.
